The Crating Craze:

It’s impact on well-being

Crates are one of the most misused tools in the pet world. I know that’s a bold statement considering we have bits, spurs, whips, chains, prods, shock, prong and choke collars. However, it’s the widespread and extensive use of crates or cages that qualifies them to be at the top of the list. There is nothing healthy, fun, enriching or pleasant about being placed into a cramped cage, and being left there.

The Housing Crisis:

How do we get out of this mess?

A pertinent question asked by a host of a local radio show recently regarding the housing crisis in BC was, “How do we get out of this mess?”  Perhaps to better understand the shortage and unaffordable housing crisis we need to look at how we got into this mess. Had the housing market in BC grown more organically prices and growth would have increased more moderately. Instead, the Federal immigration policy of providing special entry to wealthy foreign investors over a condensed period of time brought rapid change.

High Rise; High Cost; High Risk 

In BC, as all over Canada, there is an insatiable demand for housing. The media is saturated with reports of record home shortages. To solve this problem, we need to understand this problem is homemade. We did this. So it can be fixed, but it will take an unrelenting will over many years to put it right. High-rise living in the lower mainland is a relatively recent life style shift that has taken place over the last several decades. It is also becoming the sole housing choice for the majority of the population, and that is a concern.

Escape-Proof Crates

If They Sound Cruel, It’s Because They Are. 

Many of us have been taught to embrace the benefits that crating dogs provide us. It is why many animal caregivers avoid articles like this one. We don’t want to question what has become customary and acceptable; we know instinctively, it’s not. Crates for dogs are needed. However, the times that they are truly necessary account for a tiny fraction of how pervasive crates have become
